how can he hear much further?

Well i started wondering when yesterday our cs team was seeing how far they could hear. I was a pretty disapointed when he was really close and if he was past that point I couldn't hear a single thing past that point in running at least. same with all of us but one of our members bought some sound card that he said supported A3D he could hear more than 3 times as far as us. I always thought I could hear that far but it looks like I cant.

I want to know why he would be able to hear so much further than all of us? I want to be able to hear that far so I would buy a new headset and sound card. my friend got some drivers for A3D is force ur card to use it he has some problems with it but he uses it and he can hear the same as the first kid.

I currently have a pair of Platronics DSP-500's usb headset. I know i'll probably have to buy a headset and sound card to be able to hear better but Iam prepared to. what would be a good sound card and headset to be able to hear alot further than i am right now?

also, What is bettter A3D or EAX? i just read a little thing on it apperrently creative bought A3D and are incorprating it into EAX?

edit: link i found on A3D in Half-Life later on i'll get a link of his sound card and headset.

it all depends on your ingame volume.

put it to max, and lower windows volume. youll hear em spawn. but to me the sound quality gets worse w hen you do that, because the game sounds are really ****** and if u lower the game volume and put the windows volume higher it makes it sounds more clean.

Ive tried that but it completely just stops after they get to this one point of distance i cant hear any running and i can see them running right in front of my face.

here is an ss of how far i can see that spraypaint on the door is like the max distance any further than that and i cant hear it unless they shoot an awp or throw a grenade but even when they shoot anything less than like an awp i wont hear there gunshots just the bullets flying hitting objects around me.

uhhh, I think the game was designed that way, and I think this guy you're talking about installed some hakx or something. sorry to burst that thinking bubble. keep owning at cs 1.6, pal

I can hear an AK from a long ways away, but footsteps are harder to hear; maybe ~10-15 feet...

on a side note, the scout, despite being a sniper, is REALLY hard to hear.......

he just has a good sound card I think he is using A3D sound card he says and I am telling you he can hear far. I want to be able to hear that far I always thought i could but really I can't hear far at all.

he is hearing double to tripple what we can hear you can stare right at the guy when he is long a and not hear him moving but you can see him moving.

let me give you an idea of what it should be like.

my ingame volume is 0.05 my windows volume is at max.

from where you took the screenshot, I can easily hear people where that spray paint is, as well as on the platform and at short. as far as gun firing, I can hear any noisy weapon as far as long a tunnel, and mid double doors. actually I might even be able to hear an ak firing at B double doors if I look at the guy straight. if I am slightly behind the wall like where u are, then maybe not. I am not including awps in this, I can hear an awp from spawn to spawn.

please when u do these tests, dont use glocks, mac 10, or other peafiring guns, because they are not loud enough. guns that make noise are considered to be all assault rifles, the awp and the deagle.

my ingame is 0.5 and my volume in windows is between the 8-9th bar. you can hear anymore when my windows volume is up high and .05
