How can Fifth Third Bank have such stupid policies?

Every other bank I have dealt with allows external bank transactions(Chase, ING, BoA, etc) except for Fifth Third Bank. The only solution offered by the manager was to add another bank as a BillPay option and physically send them a check. Maybe it's just me, but it seems dumb to not allow internet based interbank transactions nowadays.

The only reason I'm stuck with Fifth Third is because they are the only bank with ATMs on campus. If I want to withdraw money without a fee, I'm forced to use Fifth Third. :(

Solution: do all your banking at 1 bank.
There is no need to be transferring money from 1 bank to another if both accounts are in your name.

Fact: Banking costs money...

banks want you to do exclusive banking with them so they can get some income... its a valid business practice.

I beg to differ.

Banking costs me nothing.

OP:

use tdbanknorth.com - open an account and they'll give you unlimited ATM refunds
then use INGDirect.com electric checking for everything else.

sao123, then why is it that EVERY OTHER BANK allows you to create links with external bank accounts? Fifth Third is the exception, not the rule. The only official sanctioned way is to do a wire transfer with a $25 fee.

I can't get an account at tdbanknorth.com because I'm in Ohio. Most places I see give you 2 free ATM transactions a month.

I already use INGDirect for my saving account and I just figured that I would transfer money as I need hard cash into the the Fifth Third account. Transfering TO Fifth Third just fine, it's moving money out of the account that's a problem.

Yes, you can transfer money from a third party account. However, you can't do it directly the Fifth Third website.

5/3rd sucks. They sent my account for collections because they kept on charging a maintenance fee till my balance became zero. Then they charged an overdraft fee.

They had specifically stated that I don't need to maintain a minimum balance and won't be charged any fee. Swindlers.....

My wife has a 5/3 accound and we use USAA for all of our banking these days. We can initiate a transfer within USAA from the Fifth Third account but it did produce a hold of several days, not something I am used to from my other accounts.
