How can Facebook have such a bad interface

They've tested a bunch of UI improvements, but it results in users getting what they need faster, thus using the product less, and thus lowering ad revenue. Bad UI is better for their pockets and, at least for now, people are using Facebook whether or not their UI is horrible.

That's interesting, and sad. Sigh.

I don't really mind their UI. The only thing that really gets me is how, after all this fucking time, they still CANNOT manage to properly sort the News Feed by date. It blows my fucking mind.

I don't use facebook, but generally things change for their own sake. Companies need to appear as though they're working, so they make useless, and even detrimental updates so they can't be accused of being "stagnant", whatever the hell that means. Do it right, and it shouldn't need changing.

this...actually makes sense

am i the only one that wonders why people stopped using myspace when there was so mnuch more you could do with the website

seems there is very limited stuff you can do with facebook

you could make your myspace page whatever you wanted to

It's amazing that they have moved in reverse. The interface right before the one that just rolled out is ahead by quite a bit. No boxes to limit everything to the extreme center of the screen.

Along the same lines... probably because users click out of FB if they see there's been nothing new right away. Randomizing to some degree keeps the user there and clicking.

Maybe its analogous to the way my local supermarket constantly reorganises its shelving? It stops you getting in the habit of just popping in and going straight to the things you want and leaving again, instead every now-and-then you are forced to wander about searching for where the hell they've moved that stuff to. And in doing so, I suppose the logic goes, they are hoping you'll acidentally stumble on something else you decide you want?

This was the downfall of Myspace. It looked like a collection of 90's websites with animated backgrounds and flashy things and music on autoplay.

they probably have a heatmap set up also for optimal ad placement

for example here's an adsense heatmap for a forum:

geocities was awesome

was actually going to say that as well

honestly the amount of unique content on geocites is not found elsewhere

probably makes sense just given how boring many americans are

basically one dimensional puritan egotistical socialites

just like the redesign of the ebay logo

are you sure you have your's organized to show by "Viewing most recent stories"? i.e. block on the down arrow next to "News Feed" and make sure "Most Recent" is selected rather then "Top Stories" (default)

I had to do this on both the Android app and on the website to ensure I was seeing the "latest" by date

I despise using facebooks because of the horrible layout and lack of functionality. I never understood why everyone flocked to it. As bad as myspace was even it had a lot better features. Trying to do anything on there if frustrating.

But they both sucked so bad either way. 10 years ago there were websites doing it 10 times better. How the hell can a major website this far along be so horrible and behind?? They should take a lesson from any blog site, image site, and/or forums. This is why I think there will be a mass exodus from facebook when someone does do it right and it catches on.

Oh yeah, definitely. It's just in half-correct sorted order. There has to be some reason why they don't have it in proper order, on the website or mobile app, cause it doesn't make sense to me.

change newsfeed setting from "top stories" to "most recent"? It's not quite, but close enough.

I'm ignorant of the Facebook, but even if your eyes aren't raped by the layout, isn't it the same thing with inane posts of food choices and baby pictures?

there are millions of users he could of chose from

you could go look at other users instead

not really a fan of the myspace culture

all i was saying is the site was more pwerful

I use neither service because my need to keep in-passing contacts is outweighed by not wanting to be fattening of a consumer feedlot.

I don't understand kids these days with your Facebooks and the Twitzers. Why don't you just go outside and go to the playground?
