How can Comcast afford those HD-DVR boxes?

I've been thinking. For $10 a month, with no upfront fees, you get a Comcast DVR with a 160GB hard drive (I think) that records HD and SD. How the hell do they make money from this? Aren't these devices expensive as hell?

Yeah, I mean my bill alone is about $100 a month for Cable Modem and HDTV with the DVR box, no added channels (well...except for the next 6 months because I'm on a promotion now)

Becuase if they keep you for 2 years they made $240.

To buy a HD-DVR from directv costs 500-750 bucks and will last until it dies (which will actually be pretty soon with directv as they are moving to mpeg4 and will have some sort of tradeout program).

comcast will make money off you but i agree renting hd-dvr's is much much better than buying hd-dvr's (mainly because the tech changes so much)
