Well, assuming that all the Conroes under $300 only have 2MB cache (and it significantly impacts performance), AMD can win me over for this gen by making a dual core platform that, even if slower, is $50 to $100 cheaper. I figure I'll be upgrading again before the difference in performance becomes noticable. (<= 3 years)

Oh really? All I see is you trolling. You know the best AMD can come up with is to steal or "borrow" or even "license" conroe tech. And if Intel complains all they do is say they have a monopoly and threaten to sue.

Now stop causing trouble and act your age.

Where am I trolling??? Find a link....I read and wait for Conroe. I avoid speculation and rumor and I generally only respond to post ppl who need tech help now...

You go ahead and try to prove I troll...I can mimic your actions, If what you think you do is non-trolling. It just requires me to shove my head up my arse before I speak!!!!

That made no sense, but if it helped you blow off some steam, then so be it.

They don't need to steal, remember AMD and Intel have cross licensing agreements, any technology developed by both parties can be used by the other.

The technology can, the implementation can't. It's not like the implementation is that big of a deal though, how many different ways are there to make a calculator?
Think of it like how Windows and Linux can both run the same Java applications.

You mean like the socket 754/AM2 Semprons if they shaved a few bucks off?

Dual core would be nice, and top quality motherboards for $50 like back in the nforce2 days. (though if you look carefully, sometimes you can find some decent ones in the $70 to $80 range, but usually from lesser brands as motherboard prices have pretty much doubled in the past few years)

Oh just like Intel "borrowed" the amd64 tech.
And i bet amd also borrowed the athlon 64 design, oh and dont forget the k7 they also stole that.
Yea sure, right

Dont u have anything better to do intel fanboy?

Actually i would think the implementation would be the difficult part, sure u have ALUs, decoders etc, but how do you arrange them and make them work together to achieve maximun performance and throughput.

On Chip Memory Controller, HyperTrans.

Neither stolen from Intel. Both part of the reason AMD has such a sweet setup right now.

And both the reason I own AMD over intel. I dislike a saturated FSB.

Heh, its funny how so many people are 'fair weather fans'. So many people saying that AMD needs to do this and this in order to get them to buy an AMD chip again. In actuality, all AMD needs to do is launch a faster chip than than the C2D. :p

The irony is that once AMD does just that, everyone will come back over to the AMD side of the camp and proclaim that AMD's new chip is the undisputed king of performance while spouting all manner of venom towards Intel.

The forces of the universe have decreed that AMD and Intel will forever play leapfrog. And it seems that those same forces have decreed that enthusiasts will go in and out as the tide does.

theres no benchmarks that will make me leave amd. once you know you stick with the right chip for you, no need for upgrading every time a new socket/core comes out.

They already have my heart, if intels so called "conroe" beats all amd cpus, oh well. I will still stick with amd, and one cpu beating the other is part of the game. A month after conroe is released amd will release something that will mess it up.
