notice how they used the term "underrepresented minority"? why not just minorities right? minorities is what matters, but they know very well they have to completely pretend asians do not exist so they can continue their little crusade. we are an inconvenient truth.
Because when you make up 40% of your school's population you're no longer a minority.
qft
bullsh*t. we are what? 1% of the us population? we are about as "minority" as it gets. asians work damn hard to get into those schools, they don't get in because of some kind of tradition or old time racism type bullsh*t. but its hidden away, why? because its an inconvenient truth that a minority CAN succeed. and that goes against all the whining the other groups do about the system keeping them down.
1. while only (iirc) 4% of the us population, i would hazard a guess that asians make up a much larger percentage on many college campuses. i could be wrong, as i haven't seen nationwide statistics, but that's what i've seen in my personal experience.
2. i don't think it's hidden away. i think the difference is that (in a broad, over-generalization) asians and whites in america are actually more privelaged than the other under-represented minorities. that is, asians and whites have access to better schools, tutors, more money, etc. as i said, this is a generalization, but on average is probably true.
3. despite all that, i actually agree with you (if you read my other posts): race has no place in admissions. including it as part of the application is a way to treat the symptoms, rather than the cause, of the problem.
