Even a lot of the projections out there are far from apocalyptic. For example I think most projections suggest global population will peak at about 10 billion between 2050 and 2100. Sure, that's a lot of people, but I don't think it's unsustainable, especially considering scientific advancements will allow us to more efficiently utilize the resources on this planet (and eventually on other planets, I'm sure).

We're currently having a difficult time sustaining six billion people comfortably since the vast majority of people on this earth spend nearly their entire life in poverty.
