I cant get it to clock to 3.5 any ideas ???

ok now that ive done that Now i got a problem i was using the machine last night and all of the suden it switched off. Now when i try to turn it on the fans shake but no power to the system. I pulled all of drives and the ram and still no dice on powering up. Is it the psu or could i have cooked the proc??

could i have cooked the proc??
Probably not, unless you had the heatsink on wrong.

Make sure to unplug all your extra stuff, hard drives, cd drives, etc. Then see if it powers up.

Also try to clear the bios.

Maybe you burned the power supply, maybe. If you have a spare, give that a try.

Maybe something shorted out inside, maybe the mobo is touching metal, maybe you dropped a screw in there. Hard to say for sure.

You could also try pulling the parts (mobo/cpu/ram/psu/video) out of the case and see if they will boot while just sitting on the table. I do this to test stuff.

I have pulled every thing but the proc and no dice. I tried to clear the Cmos but no boot. the fans just shiver is the best way to discribe it and then nothing

Im hoping its the PSU it was super cheap so

The power led on the board works but it will not power up

would a bad CPU cause it not to power on ???

wouldnt i get some kind of error beeps it the proc or ram was bad??

Put in the basics - video, RAM, processor. Does it POST? If no, then you've narrowed it down to one of those or the motherboard/PSU. At this point, I'd go for the power supply as culprit since everything else is new. Unless you cracked the core of the processor when you were mounting the HSF, highly unlikely it's bad. Run everything at stock settings - don't overclock until your system is stable.

Does the AI7 have a numerical post display? If so, what number is it displaying, if it is displaying anything?

How long was the thing running last night before it died? If it was more than a few seconds, it almost has to be the PS, assuming the heat sink on the CPU was on right and the CPU fan was working.

Having a spare PS around is not the worst thing that you can have. From what you have said, that sounds like the most likely problem. It has been my experience that you get what you pay for with power supplies.

Beep codes. Use them. If you are not getting them, it is the PSU or an improper cabling. Checked all of your power cables.
