Blu-ray discs only do the injection-molding process on a single 1.1-mm disc, which reduces cost. That savings balances out the cost of adding the protective layer, so the end price is no more than the price of a regular DVD.

as for the writer..yea the idea of a bluray vcr type thing is sweet. esp if it records in hdwmv or whatever.. so much space, unlike current dvd-r vcr dealies that can barely pull 2 hours with any sort of quality even approaching standard def..
