How big of a PS do I need?

I'm running a MSI MB with a Athlon XP 1800. I only have 2 IDE devices, a HD and a CD-Rom. I have a 300 watt power supply which I'm told is barely enough and I've been told it's fine. Can I put in a Ricoh 7040A CD-RW 4x-4x-20x in and not have power problems with my CPU. I'm told that not having enough power now adays can really impact CPU performance. Thanks!

i'd say its enough, im not familiar with Ricoh but if its a good quality ps its enough, even with the extra cd-rw. it might be a problem down the road when you add more fans, HD's and pci cards.

These days another HUGE draw can be your video card. Check it's specs.

That being said 300W is probably enough for your system. I seriously doubt if you are drawing
even close to that much power.

If you begin to have stability problems, rebooting and the like. Suspect the PS first.
The last 3 problems I have diagnosed turned out to be PS related.

Ok, well I have a Geforce 2 mx200 (I know I know. I didn't know when I got it)

Is there any way to guage roughly how much power I'm drawing?
