they have ads

But not enough, when you uploa a vide, it can be 10 minutes, of 100MB, if you have a director'd accout I believe it can be longer but not larger. I have a directors account and can upload only 100MB, so lets assume 1min of video = 10MB of video. They have ALOT of bandwidth and a hell of alot of servers.

6000th POST!!!!! WEEEEEEE!!!!

Do I win another post?

Why? I thought bandwidth was a flat fee no? (Unless of course they're renting...) From what I remember the school districts in my area share a single T3 connection and they're always bitching in the papers about how they pay like $50K a month to keep it up and to distribute the costs, they're trying to split it futher with other school districts.

Sounds like a flat rate to me...

I more curious about the CPU that it takes to convert the vid to the flash format that we see on the browser. Maybe its onverted at the moment of upload. Ive never done it.

Youtube actually uses up more network traffic than myspace does now. They're at the point where even 10 Gigabit fiber connections aren't enough to handle their outgoing bandwidth requirements anymore.

A lot of the bigger connections these days are flat fee.

We pay $1000 a month for 100mbit up/down.
