How big, is big enough?

Just curious... I had a 19" TV for a few years, then upgraded to a cheap 27" TV (Symphonic) for $150 new.

I went to Fry's and saw a 42, 50, 56, 62" and maybe one larger.... how big is big enough?

Ive been recently considering getting a bigger TV because it is one of the most used items in a household. People will drop 1k on a sofa, 500 on a chair, but $2k on a good tv? some shy away from that.

So Ive been reviewing my options, projector, DLP, Plasma, etc.... and DLP seems like a good way to go... Projector... maybe best for a dark basement home theater, but for every day viewing?

Anyway, looking for feedback on that, and also on Size... is 62" that much better than a 52?

I think I remember (back in the opld days) that you needed to be able to sit at least 3x distance away from the screen as its diagonal size, at least for large projection TVs. Not sure it still applies for Plasma/LCDs, but it might.

depends on how far your seating is from the television, or where it will be placed. i like my 47 inch panny just fine 😀

there is such a thing as too big if it's not a huge room tho... be careful.

have a 57" and I think anything over 50" is plenty big enough. 40" is already huge if you're used to 19". I even play XBOX on the 57" and while it's nice, it's not a huge improvement over my 27" WS LCDTV. It may be worthwhile if it were split-screen action though.

i want a 50inch widescreen. that should fit my living room fine. though it is kinda small 15 by 19 or so.

We really do not watch much TV though. But we do rent/buy a LOT of DVD's.

I would love one of those huge 100+ inch setups. just not enough room and to much light in there. though my basement room (furnished woot!) is large enough. just do not have Satalite hook up in there heh.

From a practical standpoint, IMO, 42" is plenty big for 90% of all households. You have to have a very big room with seating 20' away to justify those 60+" screens.

And for your pruchase, may I recommend the Panasonic 42" EDTV Plasma?

$1357 online right now.

Yes, EDTV. Search ATOT for why this is the best set for the $.

My 27" has always seemed large enough for me... I think it mainly depends on the room.

Ideally, I like 36" flat screens. (CRT or flat panel, I don't care)
