How big a bag of Top Soil

I'm taking about like a standard sized bag. 40lbs sounds about right. A bag is like 3'x1'x.5' right. Any way I'm gonna need like 3 cubic yards.

OK Well yeah most bags are 40 lbs and arent done in Cubic yards

Thinking size wize, id say you would need 9 bags to get about 3 cubic feet.

Just guessing.

L x W x H = Amount you need in Cubic Feet.

Bags say how much isin them, for instance I just picked up some wood chips and they were 2 cubic feet per bag. (I would answer an exact amount, but you didn't say what you are doing with it and how large the area is.)

The stuff is 'dirt' cheap 😛 So, why not purchase a sufficient number of bags to ensure that you have enough. Spread the leftovers on the lawn.

btw, you say you're building a raised flower planter? Do you mean a raised flower bed? You estimated 3 cubic yards of dirt... Assuming you're intelligent enough to make a decent estimate, you don't want to purchase it by the bag. I think a cubic foot of topsoil is about 80 pounds; therefore, those 40 pound bags are 1/2 cubic foot. You're going to need 162 of those 40 pound bags in order to reach your 3 cubic yards. (which makes me remember, it's about 1 1/4 tons per cubic yard... duhhh!) Save yourself a lot of trouble, call a landscaper and have him deliver 3 yards of topsoil. The cost varies, but should run about $100-150ish.

(edit: topsoil, concrete, etc. are sold "by the yard" which is understood to mean "cubic yard")
