Just found out that my 8800gt is supposed to have HD decoding on it (I know, I suck). Tried it out and playing a 1080p file in VLC gives me 50-70% CPU usage. Tried the same file in WMP (yuck) and CPU dropped to 10-20%. Is this normal? Does it mean VLC can't access the GPU HW decoding but WMP can?
Any way around that, to get the lower CPU utilisation in VLC? Or any bit of (free) software you can recommend that doesn't suck as much as WMP?
