How best to care for travertine flooring?

JulesMaximus

No Lifer
I am having 250 sq ft of 18x18 travertine installed in our house today. Grout tomorrow.

I know you're supposed to wait about 72 hours after a new install to seal it but I'm not sure what to use. This is going in an entry area (high traffic-residential home), two bathrooms and a hallway.

Any suggestions?

travertine is basically calcium carbonate, so HCl would destroy it. Sorry, bad geology attempt at humor

When installing tile I only sealed the grout, but then again I never had travertine

Yeah, I know that HCI is Hydrochloric Acid and that was my first thought when I read your response but I thought it might also be the name of some industrial sealer or something though so I Google'd it and well, you saw my response.

I'll just ask the installer.
