If you're peeing clear or a very pale yellow, you are fine. Drinking too much can be very annoying, especially if you are busy and it's a pain to go to the bathroom so often.
If, on the other hand, your urine is dark or cloudy, you need to drink more.
During exercise, sip water. If you get thirsty, it's too late. Thirst is too delayed and your performance will suffer if you wait for it to tell you when to drink.
Judge you water needs by this, not those one size fits all websites or fitness gurus advocating WAY too much water intake. Any time I have tried following their advice I end up going to the piss-pot every 15-20 minutes. I cut their suggestion by a third or more, and my pee is still clear, yet I go every few hours.
