It's not bad, it just ended up having a bad rep. I have the PNY 480GB Optima. I don't understand what the bad rep is all about. From my understanding the reviews for the Optima over the web said it contained a Silicon Motion controller. Somewhere along the way PNY switched the controller to Sandforce which is older gen, but mature and GREAT performance. Additionally other versions were just a rebranded higher end PNY XLR (with Sandforce) in an Optima package.
Even though the Silicon Motion controller is newer, it's performance for this generation is ok. The Sandforce is older, but offered GREAT performance on par with current gen. In my opinion, PNY gave consumers something with on par and arguably better performance.
