How badly do 2.4ghz cordless phones interfere with routers?

I have 2 phone lines in the house both with the same 2.4Ghz wireless phone (Uniden T4). I want to set up a wireless network for my DSL with 2 computers and a laptop. Computer 1 (win98) would be wired, Computer 2 (XP home) would be wireless and the laptop (ME), would be wireless as well. Someone told me that the routers run on the same 2.4Ghz signal and would cause connection problems with the wireless computers especially since the base of one of the phones is less than 2 ft away from the computer. Is not as big of a deal than I was told or am I going to have to go for wireless-A equipment?

Anyone....Anyone...Bueler...?

802.11b and 802.11g work at 2.4GHz

The signal transmitted by 2.4GHz phone interferes with the Wireless.

It is like a car going on the road against traffic.

As far as I am concern 2.4GHz is a Big NO NO in Wireless Network envioroment, some people think that they get away with changing the phone's channels.

Even if it looks like it working, it is always ?depressing? the Wireless Network Signal.

Better off, to downgrade to 900MHz, or Upgrade to 5.8GHz.

Edit: Downgrade, or Upgarde the Phones.

I noticed something related just the other day. My understanding is that the 2.4Ghz freq. range is in the microwave band, and if I actually have the microwave oven running (computer with USB 'g' wireless NIC is in same room), then the Westell diag utility that I keep running in the background keeps popping up and re-searching for the modem, like the wireless signal is being interfered with and the net connection is briefly dropping out. I can still browse web pages, it's not competely dead, but it does look like it might be interfering.

The microwave oven is a reasonable number of years old, do you think that it could be 'leaking', in terms of being unsafe? Do microwave ovens, operating in the same room as an 802.11g WLAN, usually cause interference like this?

Also, if I set up another wireless 'b' AP, in the same vicinity (within a foot or two) of my 'g' NIC, on the same channel (different SSID), it doesn't seem to interfere at all. So I dunno. (Granted, 'b' uses DSSS, and 'g' uses FHSS, so perhaps they can overlap for that reason.)
