How bad would it be to run an A64 with PC 2100 until I can afford the ram?

How much of a performance hit are we talking here if I got an A64 3000+ and ran it with pc 2100 ram? Would it be faster than my XP 2400+ with the same ram?

Short answer = Yes, it would be faster than your XP 2400+. You would be hamstringing it with PC2100, but that's easy enough to fix, once you get the cash together for better RAM.

I'm not too sure, but I think you may be able to run the HT at a higher speed than your RAM by changing the ratio. So allowing the CPU to run at its peak while still running your RAM at its designated speed.

If he runs the RAM by SPD, it doesn't matter what the HT speed is. The A64's memory controller can run any standard RAM speed (PC 2100, PC 3200). The Memory controller has it's own control ratio, so it doesn't affect the clock generator, unless you're overclocking.
