How bad is your state doing this year?

Oregon currently has the highest unemployment rate in the nation.
In 2001, exports from the state (Portland is the 3rd largest port on the west coast) were down 22% from 2000 and a similar decline is expected again for 2002.
Our drivers aren't too bad though (almost too law-abiding sometimes :p ) and we got plenty of rain this year ;) .

Well, let's see. Aside from the usual ignorance, racism, and general inbred "charm".....here's Georgia's report card for the year:

1) We're dead last in SAT scores as of this year. We got passed by....*sigh*....South Carolina. If that's not pathetic, I don't know what is.

2) Atlanta passed L.A. in terms of average commute times recently. Our traffic is approaching legendary status (not in a good way).

3) Hand in hand with the traffic, we have one of the smoggiest cities in the nation now too. :|

I'm sure there's other gory details, I'm just too lazy to go look for them.

Oh ya Colorado has something that no other state has which is all taxes must be approved by the poeple instead of the legislature. Which is why they have actually cut taxes 2x in the last five years and are booming relative to other states. They are actually reducing the size of goverment, whens the last time anyones ever done that?

Hey Fausto, Don't you find it ironic how the incumbents continue to spew commercials touting their "great strides" in education when the State slides down to the bottom of the country. They were too busy prosecuting me in a State school over a screensaver than really working on education issues that matter. That's the bottom line.

Sad, but true. I sure as hell won't be sending any kids I may have to public schools in this state. :(

"My" State?

It'll take more than Gay Davis and Voodoo economics to slow Cali down. ;)

:D

Maybe an earthquake/tsunami will do what Enron couldn't . . . but "my" town - San Diego is "happening". Excellent job market (and weather).

At least you guys in ColoredRed can look forward to a decent ski-season this year (el nino year). :)

What do you think events AFTER July of last year do to an economy based on tourism? :(
Jfur . . . maybe you don't notice it but Hawaii's economy IS improving. After spending last Winter there (after a 2 year absence) I can see definite signs of improvement - despite your shortsighted State government.

Good news to hear your pad is "Happening" :D

My "pad" is getting crowded . . . You DID ask about "my" state. Thanks for sharing about yours. I guess that's why we have been seeing so MANY Colorado license plates in SD lately.
