How bad is this motherboard for overclocking?

I used this mother board http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813128283
for my first build along with a 3500+ venice, and I can't seem to get much out of it in terms of overclocking. I tried the stickied thing in the overclocking/cpu forum and I was successful at finding my maxes, but when I try to put them all together, it just doesnt get past the first screen. So I was wondering if it was because my mobo was a bad overclocker or just me.
 
My friend had that, and he was able to get a decent overclock out of his chip, but then he installed a weird and he couldnt' overclock anymore. I dont' think he has tried overclocking it recently, now that he has removed the hard drive.
