how bad is the latency on Starband satellite broadband?

My friend lives in the boonies. Can't get cable or dsl just 56k. He plays evercrack and a few other mmorpg and is worried about the ping times and latency of the system. Any input you guys can pass along would be appreciated.

500 ms! That would be considered excellent for satellite

average latency time would be around the 750 ms range..

just think.. the satellite is almost 30,000 miles in space.. It will never improve
now, for downloading throughput speed, it wouldn't be so bad, since latency is of least importance in this situation

its closer to 30,000 miles
