How bad is starforce copy protection?

I'm thinking of picking up Cold War for $10, but a review mentions that it uses that copy protection and it caused lots of problems, like we hear a lot.

They said updating the starcatcher drivers allowed the game to run.

Before I get it and install it, just how bad are the problems, is it worth skipping games over, other than as a protest?

Well...

It can make your computer restart when you start up a game... :D

But it can really fudge up your comp!

I never had a problem with it personally.

But if you google starforce and read some of the other problems it caused people it might have you reconsider.

Np problems yet here. They offer a driver removal tool, which I'll use once I've run through the game again.

I own one game that uses it: TOCA Race Driver 3. Absolutely no problems with it. Though it does piss me off that I need to have the disc in to play it and it takes a bit longer to verify the disc before launching the game. There wasn't any way around this, since it was a fairly new Starforce version, but that was months ago so maybe it has changed. But it hasn't caused any trouble with anything on my computer.
