I have to figure out how early to leave for a trip to Philadelphia. I need to be there by 9am, on Market Street. I'm leaving from 3.5 hours away. How much extra time do I need to add for sitting in traffic?

I'll be taking the PA turnpike east into Philly.

the schykill sucks the big one. avoid it at allcost. Leaving philly it has taken me an hour or more just to get out. Getting in on my way to AC just as bad. If you are on 462 or the NJ turn pike its not as bad..but i hear it can be pretty ******.
Try to avoid rush hour.

I lived in SE Pennsylvania for 23 years. The Schuykill (I-76 between King of Prussia & Philly) is the worst road I've ever been on. When I moved down here to DC, all anyone told me about was the horrible traffic. I'm sure there are more people down here, but all the highways are 3-5 lanes.
These people don't know pain until they've driven on the 2 lane Schuykill in rush hour.
This might sound like a needlessly complicated way to do it, OP, but it is, in fact, excellent advice.Originally posted by: acemcmac
You might also want to consider parking in conshohocken or norristown and taking the R6 in. It'll probably be a little faster, a lot less stressful and half the cost between gas and parking
