How bad is it?

Hello everyone!

So I recently got another 970 gtx ssc for my computer and I have some pretty old parts. I'm just curious on your guys opinions on how bad my cpu bottle neck is with my overclocked settings. Check it out and let me know.

I don't have any problems running any games besides maybe The Division as even with my 2 cards i still get like 70-80+ FPS on Ultra. From my understanding on how computers work is that the CPU may not be sending (frames)? fast enough to the GPU's. Basically When I play Division my CPU usage is at 100% meanwhile my first GPU Power percentage is at 60% and my second is lower. I read somewhere that if you're CPU is being 100% used and you're still getting low frames that's called a CPU bottle neck which to me makes sense. I also have to take into consideration that some games are poorly optimized.

Anyways let me know what you think. I do plan to upgrade my cpu, mobo and ram ect eventually but for now this is what I got. if you have any suggestions that would help my bottleneck (if it's really bad) let me know. Maybe I need faster ram? I'm not sure.

What refresh rate is your screen? For most people, 60 is plenty. And you have to consider the engine used by the game - is it CPU or GPU dependent?

In your particular example, Division would run faster if you had a newer i7, but you would only notice the difference if you had a 120 hz display.

It's not the 3570K @ 4.8GHz:

ahh yeah well I mean that makes sense. I haven't had problems with any other game. I plan to try witcher wild hunt soon so we'll see how that goes. Do you think if I got faster ram i would notice any difference with anything or should i just leave it how I have it now unless i choose to get a new mobo cpu ect.

970 in SLI with i7 4790K @ 4GHz averages mid 50's FPS

Spoiler warning: Actual gameplay ahead

You're gonna have to turn down some settings to get above 100 FPS with the 970 SLI. Faster RAM won't help.

The biggest difference I am seeing in new games, and with DX12, is that more cores threads definitely helps. My recommendation would be to get a used 3770K and overclock it. The rest of your system is fine, though the 970 SLI likely still won't hit 100 FPS.

yeah for sure thanks, i'll look into seeing how much a used 3770k would be. I don't know where i would get a used one tho unless there's a forum on here where you can buy/sell used stuff. what would you say a good deal is for a used 3770k?

It looks like ~$225-$250 is the going price for a 3770K, and ~$175 for a 3570K, so you'll be out of pocket ~$50-$75 plus shipping for a nice upgrade.
