How bad is it to have one late payment on a credit card?

Last month I completely forgot to pay my credit card bill. I've had a pretty clean credit history for the last 4 years prior to it. How much will this affect my credit rating? And if so, how long does it usually take for a late payment to go away?

not a lot, as long as you pay it at the 30 day late point

contact the company too, they might reverse the mark on your credit report, if you've been a good customer so far?

As long as you make a payment this month your credit card issuer probably won't report it, so it won't have any affect on your credit rating although it might alter your interest rates on that card.

Depends on how late it is.

If it's 30 days or later then you're fsckered.

Call and ask them "do I have any 30 day lates reporting to the credit bureau?" they'll either answer yes or no.

it wasn't more than 30 days late i'm sure.

Then you've got nothing to worry about, just pay the late fee (if there is one) and be more careful next time.

Crisis averted.

Pretty much what everyone else said. If it wasn't more than 30 days late, it won't count against your credit score. On the other hand, the bank it was late to will charge you a late fee (which if you haven't been late in 4 years they will most likely take off if you call them up and ask them to) and they will probably raise your interest rate on that account.
