How bad is a 6-bit LCD

And are the new Dell E173FP 16ms panels 8-bit or 6-bit?
I'm looking at 17" LCD's for a friend, and honestly (in the UK) I don't think a Dell LCD at the prices they charge is the best deal when it may be possible to get something for 25% less that's just as good.

hmm the Dell UK like Dell USA most of the time would have deals when you buy online
8bit panels have more vivid colour but generally slower response.
hmm

Dell's prices are good with coupons 'n' such. Even so, their own branded displays are not always the best, particularly the entry-level ones. If the USA deals aren't available in the UK then definitely widen the search. Check out their support forums, hardocp and arstechnica.

Last I was aware, it is still a compromise betwixt speed and colours where the "fast" gaming panels offer 16.2 instead of 16.7 million, and manage those by rapid switching from a true pallete of around 262 thousand. It prolly ain't a significant difference but for the highest levels of photo publishing and CGI. Our noggins allow us to enjoy "moving pictures" &c. so I reckon if the desired effect is achieved then the technical details don't matter much.

if you have discerning eyes, you will easily be able to see a "lack of vibrance" basically.

Personally, I wouldn't give up millions of colors for a few milliseconds.
