Go for the newer 360s preowned if you want to get things cheaper. The original ones don't compare to the slim ones.

My Elite finally died this week. I got it early 2008 so five years isn't terrible, but doesn't speak volumes for it either I suppose. I had a HD transfer kit laying around so I was able to get all my saves off and onto my Slim. But now I have no HDD space (4gb model)

When did they stop allowing you to use the HDD from the older models? Last time I read up on it (a good while now) you could take the HDD out of the shell and use it in the S. 3rd parties were making adapters and such for it too.

Yeah... I'm just afraid to brick my system. You think I should give it a shot? I'm just worried about being banned from XBL.

As long as it is an official HDD, you can just take it out of the stupid old casing, and into a new "adapter". The only reason you could get banned is if you copied the firmware from another drive that is online, and even then, I never got banned a single time. I had done it quite a few times with the same HDD. I had a 500gb drive and flash it to 60gb, 120gb, 250gb and was not banned. I did get a Slim when they came out and did away with that HDD, but the person I gave it to hasn't been banned AFAIK.

Thanks for the info... I already copied everything over but it might be worth the hard drive space. Not sure I am concerned at this point with new consoles around the corner... I will likely be picking up an XB1 and PS4. Might have to box up the ole' 360 ;)

If I reason myself into needing the space, I'll pop it in without hesitation now.
