how bad am i screwed here(Open box)

about a month ( 38 days) i bought an external dvd drive for my laptop at best buy. i got the one "on special"....i never had a use for it until now.. i opened the box, and it's not even the same model, actually not even the same brand. no accessories, etc. on the box there is an orange sticker ...... i should have geussed open box, but it didn't cross my mind since the sales guy just said it was a special.(this is my first trip to BB in about a year)


what are my chances of positive corrective action by BB managment? how should i handle it?

Brought it in, no questions asked, okay sir, here is your new item, have a nice day. Simple as that. Went in, exchanged it, walked out, no more than 10 minutes.(there was a line).
I'm pretty sure she just wanted to jump my bones......but i guess i'll never know.

If it works, then use it.
If it doesn't work, throw it away and learn from your mistakes.
Don't even bother going back to BestBuy..

See if you can get the manufacturer to warranty the item. If not... forget it! BB is notorious for refusing to exchange defective items.

Being that you waited over 5 weeks to actually look at it, I think you have high levels of screwdness.

I've returned open box items at Best Buy before, no problems at all.

Eidt, but only within a few days, not a month and a half.

It's a good idea to always ask if you can open the box, just to check contents before checkout, if you know what I mean. ;)

My local BB here in Connecticut would be very likely to allow me an exchange, but based on the vast majority of customer reports you are very likely screwed ... I still suggest that you give it a try though.
