How are you with needles? [poll]

Recently I had something of a medical scare where I thought my heart was beating abnormally for a few days. After visiting the doctor prognosis is it's probably anxiety/panic related, though I had some blood tests and an EKG to make sure the results of which I don't know yet. Here's hoping that's all it is, touch wood. Anyway while having the blood test I was reminded of how much I hate needles, in fact I used an over the counter topical anaesthetic, yeah I know I'm a pussy but it's better than not getting it done at all. I know there are others who can't stand needles, some so much that they refuse to have them at all. Where do you stand?

For those who can't even understand why someone would hate them it has nothing to do with the pain. Most people who can't stand them know they don't hurt, it's all psychological.

for shots, i am ok, but don't like them

for taking my blood, i get sick, nearly passout, vomit, go into mild shock

needles don't bother me at all. They just had to take some blood the other day; 'twas no big deal. I like watching the needle go into the vein, and then see the blood squirt up into the tube. It's cool 🙂

I have a friend (who just failed his bio test today, 47 out of 90, but aside from that) who can't stand needles. When he gets his shot he bleeds like crazy because he tenses up real bad. I'm fine with them.

Three years ago I had to inject myself with blood thinner twice a day.

Never thought I could do it but it turned out to be a piece of cake.

They don't hurt, but I can't stand the idea of them. I honestly think that I would refuse treatment regardless of what was wrong with me if needles were necessary to fix it.

I tried to refuse treatment when this happened because of my fear of needles. Apparently they didn't think i was in a sober enough condition to refuse treatment so instead they restrained me.

edit: By the way, jumping off buildings lead to needles, trust me i know.

 hehe, if I'm getting a shot or drawing blood I just look away. You rarely will feel anything after the initial prick unless the nurse/doctor/technician screwed up and have to jab you again.

I donate blood all the time. Don't have a problem with needles EXCEPT when I can feel them.

The old ladies at the blood donation center here are a little rough and throw the needle around in you. Sometimes its a little discomforting but its a small price to pay 😉

I remember in high school they held a blood donation drive... one friend FAINTED after they did the finger prick thingie for iron levels heh.

I have no problem with either the sight or the pain or the fear of the pain. The only complaint I have is that wierd cold feeling. You shouldn't feel cold on the inside. It's just wrong.

my son is a diabetic so I am very used to needles. I have had to give thousands of injections and received plenty in the training I have gone through. He is on the insulin pump now though. No more shots. We do have to put an infusion set in him every three days. Thes applicators are about 3 times as long as needles are. click on comfort

I can't stand shots. Its not the pain that gets me the most, its the thought of having the needle go through my skin. To me, Its like scratching a chalk board or something.

Not so good with them. For shots, I get the shivers and don't look.

For drawing blood, I feel like I'm going to pass out (though I never have).
