How are you running the F@H SMP client?

I got this new i7 920 D0 with eight threads (currently @3.6) and am trying to figure out how to run what ... I never paid much attention to what everyone else was doing and so I need to ask for help on how to maximize PPD.

I have one GPU client going and it doesn't seem to use much CPU. EVGA GTX 275 - PPD (and temp) is all over the place depending on WU - right now on a p5900 (472 points) it is showing 7,282 PPD

I started out with a windows SMP client - it uses four threads and gets about 2,200+ PPD on a 1920 point p2665

Yesterday I added a notFred VMPlayer, which is Linux in a VM so it runs the Linux SMP client.
It runs on two threads (not the four that the windows SMP is using) and is getting about 2,750+ PPD.

The above PPD is with two threads unused and FahMon is showing 12,397 PPD total for all three clients.

Is everyone else using Linux or a VM with Linux to run SMP clients?

It looks like I should run four notFred VMs. Will I run into problems of any kind doing this?

So anyway ... what are you running?

Recently I was running smp on 64-bit linux ubuntu 9.04. I was getting about 5500 ppd with the a2 core WUs running 1xsmp on a Q6600 @3.24 GHz. Setting up a GPU client is very difficult but it is possible.

Looks like your setup would be similar to all native linux in ppd. Nice job in maximizing output!🙂

Any thoughts or experience in using the cpu for boinc and the vid for FAH? I'd love to test that cpu on a few boinc projects.

😎 rig GLeeM! have fun with it!

I ran for about a week one SMP- four threads, one GPU and BOINC with four threads of MalariaControl.

You can see what BOINC did here.

Also the current GPU core running is core 11 and is using ~2-3% CPU (while System Idle Process is using ~1-2%). Oh yeah I started another VM. PPD is now 14,731.

No promises, but what projects were you interested in testing?

Nothing that important. Did you post the details of your rig somewhere (OS, hardware)?

Ideally you should run four NotFred VMs with a GPU2 instance for each video card. The GPU2 client uses very little CPU time, so most of the cycles will go to the VM CPU clients. My biggest problem with running extra VMs is heat (same issue with GPU2 folding), especially with the GPU2 client maxing out my secondary GPU (my primary one is passively cooled, so I don't dare fold on it), I get temperatures that border on the thermal limits of 24/7 operation for my hardware. I ended up giving up on GPU folding until I have a single GPU setup with a fan on it, and the CPU temperatures are descent with just two instances running.
