I remember there were some intensive discussions concerning those random lockups when the hard drives are heavily used.
In my case, hugh file transfer, a few min of divx playing, movie encoding always gave me an spontaneous reboot, lockup or repeating squeaky sound which needed a cold reset.
So far, I notice that the culprits have been reported to be:

1) via 4in1, dma related
2) soundblaster with wrong pci latency

Every version of 4in1 has been tried but no difference. Without via drivers at all, the problem seed to go awy. Also, I noticed if the sound is disabled, the problems are also gone when encoding movies. I didn't do much test with the pci latency stuff by changing BIOS setup.

Eventually, I solved the problems by installing the via drivers one by one, ie. busmaster, miniport, inf update (without installing 4in1 package), which I found not very funny.

Any progress from then? I wanna see other people's walkthrough. Any personal experience will be welcome.
