How are you contributing to the future of our planet?

I've owned a fullsize pickup truck (a Toyota Tundra) and an SUV (a piece of crap Isuzu Rodeo) and I've come to the conclusion that, while nice to own occasionally, I really don't need an SUV or a fullsize pickup truck. It's not that my car is really that much more efficient but I've really started to evaluate my needs and lifestyle. Specificaly, how am I contributing to the future of the planet?

Anyway, I've been paying more attention to recycling, since I have that available to me easily in curbside pickup, by sorting through the things I throw away. I've also been enjoying the benefit of living close to where I work (10 miles) by riding my bike to work a few days a week.

Just wondering how or if anyone here would like to talk about any lifestyle changes you've made related to global warming or to just brag about things you do to contribute to the conservation of our planets resources.

I'm not licensed to drive a motor vehicle of any kind nor have the interest to. :p

My wife and I have decided to not have children. Too many people on the planet already.

Edit - not the only reason but if we wanted children, we would adopt.

I ride my bike to class everyday. Not really because I'm worried about global warming, just that it's almost impossible to find parking on campus. :p

I drive a big Mercedes SUV that gets 15 mpg. I don't carpool. I live in a house all by myself and in the winter I tend to leave the lights on for my dog. I let the water run while I brush my teeth. I frequent fast food reataurants that burn the rain forests to grow cattle for me to eat. I collect an annual check derived from profits generated by oil companies that plunder the unspoiled wilderness of Alaska.

To offset my evil impact on the environment, I rarely wash my car and I haven't had any kids. Therefore my impact ends when I die unlike the "fruitful" hybrid drivers whose spawn will continue to ravage the earth for generations to come.

Yeah, but you also have a yacht, you earth butcher;)

As for me, the bike gets 55mpg, the car gets 30, and I recycle. I consume very little anyway.

I haven't seen very many hybrids full of kids.

I burn as much gas as possible to make up for people who don't. Plus I eat a quarter pounder with cheese and throw the wrapper out the window. ;)

I'm a major contributor to an electronics recycling organization.

I've had a hand, along with about 10 other people in preventing more than 12,563 cubic yards of electronic equipment (primarily computers) from reaching landfills - and that's only counting the useless stuff that we broke down into raw materials. I don't have a volumetric size or weight on the stuff we refurbished and donated to community organizations, but there was a lot of that.

I take my trash to the dumpster instead of throwing it out the window like some people in my apartment complex.

Other than that.... nothing.

I smoke, and drive a SUV, leave all the lights on all the time, leave my fridge wide open, breed uncontrollably, and only eat two bites of each piece of food before i just throw it away, and i buy new furniture every month. This way I fit in with the average american.

Seriously though, I bought a car that is better on gas, and sit in the dark a lot, and my ole lady and I decided to not have children, we don't drive unless we have to, and we are vegetarians. This last one may or may not help, but it's a personal choice we made. At least we aren't supporting the methane factories that are feed lots. Oh and we recycle as much as we can with the limited facilities here in Amarillo.
