This. Most drugs aren't the evil bogeyman that government propaganda led us to believe. I don't care if someone wants to go home and drink a six pack of beer or smoke a joint or snort some lines, etc. Just like with alcohol, if you're not driving intoxicated or putting others at danger, I just don't care and don't believe it should be an offense that people go to prison over. A HUGE portion of the prison population is behind bars for non-violent drug offenses.

Personally I am not sad to see a murderer get put down. But the way capital punishment is used in this country makes it not act as a deterrent, so what's the point? When you figure it doesn't stop anyone from committing horrible crimes and there is a chance of an innocent person being executed, I'm not sure we should bother with the death penalty... just too much risk for very little benefit.

If a pregnant woman is looking for crack, do you really think the dealer is the problem in that scenario? Personally I believe in a small government that doesn't infringe and personal responsibility. The OP is completely oblivious about the fact that it costs several orders of magnitude more taxpayer money to carry out capital sentences (including trials). Have you given a thought about why those who are on death row are there for dozens of years?

Moreover, capital punishment has little to do with crowded prisons. 99.9%+ prisoners are not there waiting for their execution dates. I suggest those who advocate more capital sentences pay for the prosecutions as well as carrying out the executions themselves.

We need to educate ourselves more about capital punishment, both from moral perspective and from practical consequences. As to the overcrowding prison population, one solution to it is to reform our pervertly punitive criminal laws. In order for that to happen, we should stop listening to negative ads in elections that accuse candidates for being "soft" on crimes. Politicians/judges trying to look tough on crimes is what brought us to this point in the first place.
