How are we supposed to end sexism when it is engrained in our society

Tour de france, football, baseball, basket ball, boxing,,, all teach young people there is supposed to be a division between men and women. This idea that men and women are not equal is then carried into adulthood.

Maybe the best way to end sexism is to end segregated sports.

Let women play professional football right next to men.

Let women race in the tour de france.

End segregated boxing.

Let the feminist bring their best contenders to the ring. Then society will realize men and women should be treated equally.

I always wondered how the WNBA could avoid being sued for discrimination on the basis of sex...

I mean if say a male basketball player not quite good enough for the NBA showed up do you think he would get a tryout?

I assume you're joking, OP?

Also, most sports mentioned do allow women into them. The Tour de France has no rule I'm aware of prohibiting women, but there is not a single one on the planet who can ride at that level.

Women can play professional football, especially now. A women went to the combine and tried to show her stuff there (as a kicker). [Failed miserably btw]

The issue is, the sport is built around stronger, more muscular tone bodies.

1) Men are naturally more toned than women. So if a man was to put same workout time as a women, he would be stronger/faster.

2) Women are more prone to that one thing where bones can become more brittle.

Basically, women can play it is just not a sport in which they will succeed too well in and it is more based on how females and males are different than sexism.

But what about the opposite. If say some male college basketball player that wasn't quite good enough for the NBA asked for a WNBA tryout do you think he would be given the opportunity?

No, I am not joking.

How many teenage boys have a female idol for something besides sex?

And I think that is part of the problem. Kids look at women as sexual objects rather than admiring women for their abilities.

Teenage boys don't want to be women. Women acting like men don't give men a hard on.

50 years of feminism can't counteract 50 million years of evolution.

He shouldn't, because then it would very quickly turn into the women's basketball league filled 100% full of men.

It's why you have age groups in various sports like running, for example; you have an all-around medal, then you have one for women, one for men, then you have a medal for 30-40 year olds and a separate one for 65, this way you are competing on somewhat even playing fields.

Boys don't generally idolize female athletes and generally females don't idolize male ones (though probably more than the former).

We start by letting women control their own bodies and stop trying to infantilize them, control them, and treat them like helpless victims who don't know any better.

We start by discouraging others from mysoginistic behavior. Equal pay, equal opportunities and less barriers..and elect officials who have these things as part of their agenda to end the incredibly stupid policies that have been pushed forth, such as all the anti abortion extremist laws, and start hammering the f*** out of the military when it comes to sexual assault.

What is sexism. I know what sex I am??

Lets have a women's draft and let them die for men in the next war.

I was in the Military and women had a completely different set of physical fitness standards. They did pushups on their Knees and men did real pushups. It was a joke. If they cant meet the same standards as men they dont deserve to be in the Military. Women arent physically equal to men and they never will be. Cant violate laws of nature.

You must realize that not everybody agrees that abortion is not simply a women's rights issue. That is why many are opposed to it.

Equal pay is already law, it was made that way decades ago. Any woman who can objectively prove that she is receiving less money than a male counterpart for the same work has an open/shut case.

.

You mean like how if a drunk man and a drunk woman have sex only the woman is raped?

Also, how about we start letting men control their own bodies, instead of making them slaves to women for the choice women make?

The WNBA is a business though. Businesses cannot discriminate in hiring on the basis of sex. Seems pretty clear.

Men and women aren't equal and will never be equal. I am under the assumption this is a semi-troll thread.

One gender produces mass testosterone for producing muscle. The other produces mass estrogen which hinders muscle growth.

The 2 were never meant to be the same, feminists are just confused with themselves into believing fantasies. They want to be treated the same, yet they still want the door held open for them and they still don't want to pay. Go figure.

You're all idiots.

The easiest way to end sexism in sports is to realize that acknowledging that women are, for the most part, physically inferior to men is not sexism.

Women are generally smaller, have worse centers of gravity (tits,) have less muscle, and their bodies are built sufficiently different (wider hips, etc) so that there are certain things they just don't do as well.

Acknowledging that fact does not make you a sexist.

Sexism is when the person's sex is the ONLY reason why they are not allowed to participate.

Just like every human on earth. They want changes to things being more fair in areas they have the disadvantage. However in the areas they have the advantage, they wish to keep it.

People only want "fair" if they get the good part of the change/deal. However if people get the worse side or have to give something up, they do not want it/believe it to be fair.

Aka today Fairness is 100% bias.

You're barking up the wrong tree,

start with mostly liberal Hollywood/televisions/music industries portrayal of women as nothing more than sex objects first that need a strong man to set them straight or save them, of which today's youth are continuously influenced(brainwashed) from early childhood,

http://therambler.org/2012/01/28/hollywood-continues-portrayal-of-sexist-female-stereotypes/

It all started with Marilyn Monroe, then movies went further downhill with Pamela Anderson and Anna Nicole Smith. Ditzy, seductive, surgical enhancements and wild sexuality is the image young women have learned to look up to and what men seem to appreciate.

Women are objectified in society solely because of what is seen on the big screen. There are so many dimensions of a woman that could be glorified but instead the entertainment industry minimizes the potential of our reputations. Hollywood’s concept of women has become very misconstrued.

Over time movies
have pushed the envelope a little further, whether it is a woman’s sexuality or her demeanor. The sex scenes have gone from simple and short to long and risqué. It could be any movie, even a science fiction or horror film. I’m thinking what I’m watching is a relatively good movie and then all of a sudden there is a nude scene or sex scene smack dab in the middle. It seems as if in this present time I cannot get through one movie without seeing a woman’s partial cleavage or complete
exposure.

Female characters have always been stereotypical for the most part. Now this does not go for every movie but many films and television shows have portrayed women as the object of sex, minus the brains and personality. In the entertainment world, a woman’s intelligence is not as highly ranked as her body. According to society, the women in entertainment have to have just enough sexiness, whether it’s the shortest skirt possible or the skimpiest top that cuts off her circulation. This sends the message to young girls that this is the way to act and dress.Women are naturally the object of beauty, but society and television have done their very best to misrepresent that beauty.

Take Halle Berry for example, the well-known actress who has been in plenty of movies over the past years. She received numerous awards and nominations for her role in Monster’s Ball (2001), a movie that focused on the sexual attraction between the wife of an executed murderer and one of the cops who brought him down. Berry played the wife and Billy Bob Thornton played the cop. This movie was highly praised for the provocative scenes between Berry and Thorton.Berry had never before done a movie this provocative, but it seemed to have made her the most obvious candidate for Best Actress in 2001.

Berry won six awards and was nominated for six more for her role in Monster’s Ball. This role earned her the most awards and nominations than any other movie. Monster’s Ball is the typical example of how women are portrayed in the big screen. The fact that it received so many nominations emphasizes just how sexist society is today. It is not coincidental that women are casted in stereotypical roles of ditzy, gullible
and wildly sexual beings. This image is not only degrading, but as far from the truth as possible. I feel women should be portrayed more realistically, not just some of the time, but all the time. Young girls would something to look up to instead of the influences that have been represented, and young men would see women more realistically.

If you win over the hearts of children, you have their hearts as adults.

One of the reasons why microsoft is so popular is because the software is offered to schools at a discounted rate.

Kids go through school using microsoft. When those kids grow up and enter the workforce, they buy microsoft.

Why do parents buy their kids dr seuss books? Because we remember our parents buying us dr. seuss books.

If we teach children from an early age that women are just as capable as men, we eliminate sexism.

So if I teach children there will always be a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. They will believe it when grown up and an adult?

because teaching them incorrect information/lies (because men and women's bodies are not equal. We are different, that is how nature/god made us.) that when they get older find out is not true?

Bring on the fucking fairness, I want to see a 180lb fussy woman complaining about separate leagues get tackled by a 250lb+ LB straight to the gut.

Has anyone proven there is not a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow?

It sure would be nice to have that pot of gold my parents told me about.

Except that women are not "just as capable as men" when it comes to certain things. Raw physical prowess is one of those things. Failing to acknowledge these differences could result in people getting hurt or dying.
