<< hmm...I've had lots of really good calzones in several different areas of Italy that didn't have any ricotta in them. >>

You think you get real italian food there? If you aren't in Brooklyn, North Jersey or South Philly, Fugeddaboudit! ;)
>>

LOL, good point. Unfortunately, the extent of my Italian dining in those areas consists of a sh!thole pizzeria in Allentown that served salad pizza--consisting of crust and shredded iceberg lettuce (I sh!t you not), Patsy's in NYC, Puglia's in Little Italy (but I never remember what I ate or how good it was because everyone who goes there, myself included, goes to get plastered and sing with Jorge), and assorted other Italian places in Manhattan, Queens, and Bergen County, NJ. I need to check out some new places.

Ben's Pizzeria in the village, NYC. Most memorable calzone I ever had. It was very good(the guys there follow your directions to a T if you want).the company was stellar, and the atmosphere...very pizzeriaish.

get calzones over at nikki's pizza in dobie mall here in austin... really frickin good, especially if you get the ones fresh made instead of warmed in the oven. haven't had pizza hut since the big new yorker mistake one night. that was the worst pizza i've ever had, and i've had the giant gumby (should be called the giant gummy)

was planning on trying them soon. Nothing can beat a DP Dough though. So many types to choose from and you can design your own also.

Do these things even have tomato(pizza) sauce in them?
I think it'd be pretty nasty without it. :/

First of all before Mwilding goes ranting and raving again saying "It's an effing STROMBOLI!!". I'm well aware of that. Normally I don't eat at Pizza Slut I prefer Papa John's, Papa Murphy's, Round Table, DeNicola's or Flying Pie Pizza and I know this isn't authentic Italian food nor am I expecting it to be.

Now that I have stated the typical disclaimer BS. I was pleasantly surprised and thought it was a good value for $10.99 which got my wife and I two Classic P'zones. If you like green peppers, get the Classic. It comes sliced in half with a cup of marinara sauce for dipping or drenching.

If I make a beeline to the bathroom (for obvious reasons) in a few hours then I'll edit my above statement with some ranting and raving BS. For now, it was a good buy, go out and try one.

travel a bit more man. just come like 30 ne of you too jersey and you'll see that What you call effing stromboli's are called calzones here. hey calzones are the ORIGINAL and Strombolli's are just Philly knock offs.

it's like them chicago people calling those deep dish things a PIZZA. that's not a pizza, it's a tasty dish that has some similar ingredients to a pizza, but it's not pizza, anyone from the NY/NJ are will tell you that. :)

Actually, you'd be surprised. I like tomato sauce, but we got so sick of them piling it on, that we started ordering our pizzas without any sauce, lol. It's still good.

At the place we were ordering from the time, at least, they said it was pretty common to have pizzas ordered with no sauce..

lol, I get real italian food all the time, though I guess that comes from the fact that my grandmother is from italy and cooks fairly often. :) as for those calzone thingees, never tried one yet. I just love the personal pan pepperoni to much to try anything else.
