How are those IBM i1200 Thinkpad Laptops that sell for $749 ?

I know they have HPA screens, but a buddy is in need of inexpensive one for his dad, and wondered about its overall quality and if there any trouble spots.

Yea they are ok. Not as nice as the A or T series but you can't beat the price. Keep in mind that they do NOT come with floppy drives, only a CD rom. The one I purchased had the 12.1 TFT so I cannot comment on the HPA screen. Also the Thinkpad only has one PC Card slot and one memory slot, so make them count. If you need network support I would reccomend the 10/100 56k Etherjet Mini PCI Card. If installs in place of the current modem and will give you on board modem and nic without taking up your PC Card slot. It can be purchased for about $190.
