How are these notebooks?

The processor should be between fine and overkill, for your application. Any reasonably recent Pentium M or Turion will rip through most tasks. I'd stay far, far away from Intel GMA 900 graphics if I fancied any CAD, though. Even ATI x200 will be better, and real discrete graphics better still. For a laptop, you'll also want to consider feel and build quality, as those are a big part of the experience of using one.

As for what to buy, I cannot be that helpful, I know little about the canadian market.

IMHO, I'll go with the Presario. Although as mentioned, the CPU's are almost overkill for your friend's basic needs except maybe for the CAD. But if you have narrowed it to this two units then I will go with the Presario. I never liked IGP. With CAD I prefer dedicated video ram.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Is it always a good idea to get the extended warranty with the notebook? In other words, is it safe to assume that it is usually hard to troubleshoot a notebook if things go wrong...hardware-wise?

Also, if any of you guys know of any good deals, just post them up. I'd appreciate it.

Thanks.

I can't open up the extended links. But if you really want some reliable notebook I prefer Toshiba. As for troubleshooting hardware wise on a notebook, it's next to impossible.
