does it matter? you'll need the drivers for whatever OS your running anyway... but the 9x/ME drivers will "bench" better due to the fact that Win2K and Nt base OS's just aren't optimized for full-on performance but for stability and application...

yes it matters alot actually. I'm a hardcore Q3 player and i need all the fps i can get. I'd like to use Win2k, but a clanmate with a V3 says he's gettin about 15% less fps in Win2k compared to Win98 results. Now i don't know what version drivers he was using, but he said it wasn't the lastest, which was released on Nov. 28.

I have to disagree w/ that a bit. If you look at Nvidias drivers you can see that the perofmrnace is just about equal. Also, the NT kernel is far more efficient than is the 9x so actually if the dirvers are developed correctly, NT/2k should outbench a 9x anyday (why do you think the xbox will have a base NT kernel? (2k to be exact)).

about the v3 drivers... I had/have a v3 running on win2k for quite some time and the 2k drivers are fine (at least the were to me). Now I dont play q3a THAT much, but i do play and they worked fine. I dont have any comparison benches but if 15% loss is what you will be getting, in my opinion... id rather have the stability and efficiency (not to mention the security) of 2k and the 15% degradation, than have marginally faster performance and a 9x kernel. Thats just the way I see things though, so it depends.

If you're a hardcore Q3A player what are you doing with a V3? :p

hehehe

I recently saw a blurb on 2000 drivers...I can't remember if it was at Anand or FiringSquad and whether or not it was a dedicated Win2000 driver comparison or just a page of a video card review but the nVidia and 3dfx were the same in 98 and 2000, this was GeForce2 and Voodoo5 not voodoo3..but 3dfx has good win2k drivers.

I think it was at Anand but I'm not 100% sure..
