im starting to research my new build, and it looks like the c2d xeon chips are priced almost the same as their consumer counterparts on newegg.

does anyone have a c2d xeon chip and if so, how well do they overclock?

TIA!

They are basicy the same chip. Some use LGA 771 which are server bords which most of the time do not have OC features.

In past years the server chips typically can take more abuse and use. They are built a little stronger and can potentially overclock higher. I havent looked at the new Core2 Xeon chips but I would assume its the same for them as well. If the mobo you use is a great overclocker then you should do well. The mobo will be your limiting overclock factor I think.
