should i get a 2500+ barton, and o/c it, or are the original 2500+ tbred's better at o/cing?

they would need to be able to beat out my current combo which is a 1.8a at 2.6.

what do you recommend? i am looking to spend as little as possible

From what I've read, they tend to hit 2200-2300MHz reliably on good air cooling. The T-bred B's are hitting anywhere from 2100MHz-2400MHz on air, with the later stepping 1700+'s and most 2100+'s eclipsing the 2300MHz barrier.

I just picked up a 2500+ retail myself for $139 shipped at googlegear..it was $150 yesterday and $180 last week....I'm hoping to get a later stepping and at least 2300MHz.

i got H2O, albeit cheap, check my ultimate rig, so i can do some voltage adjustments.

and i have 768megs ram, so im goin nforce 2 for the VERY slight dual channle improvement, unless you recommend another mobo combo.

So you say a barton 2500 would do better at O/C than a 2400+ thorough bred, and is the 30$ worth it?

i know the barton isnt always faster, but that seems like a higher O/C since the bartons have a lower clock speed to begin

Yea I bought from the same place, cant beat the price. I will not be overclocking but I would sure like to see your results, I will be putting it in a epox 8RDA+ Nforce2 with some kingston hyperXseries PC2700 and a Fic Radion 9500 pro.

Have you tried the database at Overclockers.com?

hmm, never knew about a database of o/c's or overclockers.com.

your full of knowledge

edit : ahh, i see no entries for the 2500+!

I have been told I am full of it before.

:D

I think it is pretty new to have a serious database yet. My (wild) guess is - according to what little I have read - that the O/C'ing results are inconsistant. Usually the later steppings are better O/C'ers for all CPUs.

It's currently a matter of "luck". If you are an early adopter, your chances for a good O/C is less now than later.

;)

but NOW, i feel i can get about 220+ for my current mobo/proc combo (check ultimate rig in sig), and that basically eliminates all differences in money!!

hmm, for some reason i always seem to have 2 person conversations on the forums

Well, I am not an "AMD man", so I can only post what I remember in "passing".

"Search" in GH and O/C'ing may help you. I vaguely remember a thread where the original TBred was a better O/C'er than the Barton.

The "real" (rabid) O/C'ers are in "CPU/Processors and O/C'ing". :D
