How are some websites affecting my monitor brightness?

I never noticed this before I got an LCD monitor. Sometimes I'll go to a website and notice that the overall brightness of my browser window has increased noticeably. It affects all open browser windows. If I close all browser windows first then open a new one, it will be back to normal.

I have a feeling it might be related to Java since I have noticed it frequently happens if I visit a site with Java games, but it also happens other times when I don't think Java is involved.

The monitor is a Samsung 970P and I'm running Windows XP SP2. Video card is a 6600GT.

Could be one of the Samsung "Magic" features adjusting the contrast dynamically. I'm not sure.

Unless it changes it automatically then it shouldn't change.
You sure it's just not your eyes?

Many monitors have adaptive contrast (it changes to suit the content). That makes stuff fade in and get darker. I thought Samsung's MagicTune software had something like tihs. I didn't think the 970P had it built-in but it's possible. That's all I can think of.

I'm 100% positive. The difference is striking. For example, if I look at the Video forum, I see threads listed in alternating lighter and darker bands of gray. Once this brightness change (perhaps contrast change, not sure) happens, the lighter gray becomes practically white. It's much too bright to see comfortably. If I close all browser windows and reopen it, and all is well.

The NEC 20wmgx2 with advanced DV mode does this. The solution is to turn it off for browsing and on for games
