How are RX 470, RX 570 cards these days for DC, BIONC, F@H?

Been mining, that's soon to be a bust, looking to start up some DC'ing again.

What's good these days, as far as projects go? I promised Mark I'd work on some F@H once I was done mining, but I've got a bunch of PCs here. Cold weather is coming up, best prepare with a little DC to heat up the place. :)

Edit: Oh, I have four RX 570 cards, two 4GB and two 8GB, a 4GB RX 470 that's semi-falling-apart, and a 260X 2GB, not much good for mining, probably nor DC work, due to limited VRAM, as well as doing VPU recovery when it's under heavier loads. I had a 4GB RX 460, but it died recently.

Also have some Ryzen 5 1600 rigs, some are overclocked.

From my old Folding@Home archive:

And also 2GB is non issue (at least for me) and AMD cards are usually good at Milkyway@Home.

Thanks! Looks like the RX 570 cards may be capable of a 1/4 mil. PPD in F@H? Not bad. I'll throw them on F@H on Monday.

Well, it's Monday. I'm throwing my "HP Power Gaming PC" on F@H, with a GTX 1060 3GB, and an i5-7400. Shows 309K PPD currently? Is that too low? Is the 1060 shown in the chart above, a 6GB or a 3GB model? Because the 3GB is cut-down, not just in VRAM, but in terms of GPU resources too.

I am going to install F@H on my RX 470 rig now, and the four RX 570 cards are still going to be mining, for now. So, I'm going to be half-mining, and half-F@H right now.

Ryzen R5 1600 and RX 470 are around 300K+ PPD.

Ryzen R5 1600 and an R7 260X 2GB are 123K PPD.

I believe the one in the chart was the 6GB version which has more SP than 3GB one.

Here is the source:
https://www.overclock.net/forum/55-...me-team/475163-gpu-projects-ppd-database.html
There is a link in there to a much more detailed spreadsheet. But it still doesn't distinguish between 1060/3GB and 1060/6GB.

Due to the wide variability between work units, it would be good if there were many more samples in this database as there currently are. Also, Windows and Linux should be shown separately, because performance under Linux is systematically higher than on Windows. (At least with larger Nvidia GPUs; not sure about smaller Nvidia GPUs and AMD GPUs.)

There is a 25-30% PPD advantage with the same hardware, but using Linux. My 1080TI's get 950k under windows, and 1.238 million under linux

If you are interested in a dual-boot linux, the only easy way is a separate physical hard drive, but the OS is free, and easy to install, including drivers. I have a script in case you want to try it.

I would like to move to Linux, at some near-future point. I've dual-booted it before, on some of my older rigs. I never quite managed to get GPU folding working under Linux with AMD cards, though.

To be honest, everything I have done is with nvidia. But I just got 2 290 cards, maybe I will try those.

This is interesting. I've started up GPU mining with NiceHash on the Ryzen R5 1600 box with the RX 470, and while my F@H PPD hasn't dropped nearly at all, I can ALSO still mine with it. The mining program is showing fluctuating MH/sec, between 14 and 22, but it appears that my F@H PPD is rock-solid.

I encountered this before, with my HP Power Gaming PC, with the GTX 1060. I had it configured for mining, but I had also forgotten about the auto-starting F@H, so sometimes when it rebooted after an update, the F@H would start in the background, AND the mining. Mining totals on that box weren't as high as they could be, so at the time, I stopped the F@H, but it looks like you CAN do F@H and mining using NH at the same time.

Ok, now my PPD dropped by 5K, but that's not too much, from 300K+. Still, seems worth it to run both.
