How are Kumho Ecsta Supra 711's? Can someone explain UTQG tire ratings?

I hear the 712's are good, but these 711's are cheaper by $13 each.
mostly interested in a good hard compound that will last long.
don't really need some awesome z rated sports performance tires or anything.

does a higher UTQG rating mean the tire will last longer?

I HATE MY 712S!! HATE THEM!

They make noise on every turn! They slide around everywhere when I autox.. arg!

If I would have known about the Yokohama AVS ES100s I would have bought those.. I originally wanted to get Falken Azenis but heard they don't last too long.. :(

so if the kumho 711's have a treadwear of 320, that means they 3.2 times LONGER than one with a rating of 100 right?

correct, under ideal conditions, assuming the other grades are equal

I had these....

great performance wise....

but mine were for 17" rims... damn potholes killed them...

I got exactly 4 bubbles on my tires... and one of them got flat later on....
but then again I was driving downtown DC every freakin day for hours.. so.. the roads sucked , potholes freakin ever where....

Dunlop FM901's have good traction, and last a decent time, but you're looking for poor traction and long life, so nevermind.

712's are good cheap tires

but you shouldn't autox with them ;)

why didn't you get s03's!

well, i'll tell you why i didn't get s03's, because s03's are 150 a tire vs the 76/tire for the kumhos

the treadwear rating # is based on the company's OWN testing. If you really want a performance tire that has hard compound go with the sumitomo HTZ R 2's i believe they are called. Remember tho the harder the compound the noiser the tire will be. There is NO such thing as the perfect tire....you always sacrifice something for another thing.

Kumho 711's are fine for what you listed.. they are actually quite decent in the grip department, but should last a fair while too.. Kumho tires are honestly awesome... I love the 712's too.. might be my next set.

MMMM, Yokohama. My friend has the ES100's on his car and I've got the Parada Spec. 2's. I think mine might grip more then his but I guess it would only be a fair comparison to put some ES100's onto my car. Man those Parada's are sweet matched up with my suspension. Hell, even the "stock" combo I had on there before was pretty good but now....

while i don't do any autoX'ing--- i really have been satisfied with my 712's (esp. compared to the continental's i had been using)... i barely notice any road noise, and the wet traction is really good.

I'll probably be getting another set when these wear out.

Kumho's are good tire for the occasional track driven car. A year or two ago, everyone was sporting them, but there are better choices out there now.

what kind of car is this going on? are you auto-x'ing or just street driving?

I just bought some new forged 17" wheels for my prelude, on it are brand new Yokohama avs es100's. These tires have not broken in yet (ive driven maybe 25 miles so far) but i like what i feel so far.

I have heard many, many complaints against the kuhmo 712's in terms of road noise and squeaks. not so much from the 711's. I would steer clear of them, although they are priced well.

Have had my 711's for two weeks now.
01 Mazda Protege 195/50/15's

Pros
Great in the rain, smooth ride considering they're 50's, less noise than my previous Dunlops,
Price

Cons
Tires flatspot when parked overnight. Takes 3 blocks to smooth out again.

I commute 100 miles a day, mostly highway, so far I'm pretty impressed with these tires.
