Particularly the VR-616,

Ecost.com has refurb ones for 89$.

Anyone recommend something else for under 100$?

Thanks

I have an old Kenwood reciever that I got for my birthday almost 20 years ago adn it stills kicks ass. It sounds better than our most recent receiver purchase:eek:
I cant admit that to my wife though......

so in closing I have no answer for you:D

I put a Kenwood receiver in a car I had about 6 or 7 years ago, was one of the best units I owned.

I have a VR - 705 and I've had problems with the power working intermittently. It is also has hardly any features. If I could go back I would definitely buy something else.

I have a mid-range Kenwood receiver (VR-6060) and I like it a lot. Sounds great with my speakers, loaded with features, reliable, and excellent bang for the buck. I like it as much as my old Yamaha. I don't know what Kenwood's low-end receivers are like but I've heard they're decent compared to others in the price range.

I have a Kenwood VR-4090 that I am basically very happy with. It is a high-end model (MSRP was $1,150), but I got it for around $400 on uBid. No idea about the lower-end models, though, and unless I got a killer deal on a Kenwood I would tend to go for a brand with a better reputation, like Yamaha or Harman Kardon.

I have a KW reciever. I'm happy with mine, but I do think its a better audio receiver than home theater receiver (but I could be wrong). I bought mine refurbished and at the time was about the cheapest I could find for a dolby digital reciever. Its dependable and looks great.

Pioneer makes better budget receivers, but I'm listening to a 8-year-old Kenwood right now, powering my Polk RT28i's and it's still going strong (but it was a $300 model not their cheapest).

I currently have a 20year old Kenwood receiver, which isn't bad, but I want something with a remote and with a little more features.

I also have a Shiva Mark III subwoofer but the only amp I have for it is in my car.

Are there any receivers with powered subwoofer outputs?

Also is it worth spending 300-400$ on a receiver? Will it make that much of a difference? This will mainly be used for music.

Thanks again.

I got an Okyo from there for 99 bucks, the HT-R500. Had a powered subwoofer output. Working great for me so far.

Power Output (8 ohm, 1 kHz, FTC) 100 W/Ch

Dynamic Power* (4 ohm) 110 W/Ch

Discrete Output Stage

Audio Input/Output Terminals 5/2

Subwoofer Pre Out

Preset Station Naming

Automatic/Manual Tuning

Sleep Timer

RI-Compatible Remote Control

I have the Kenwood VR-2080. Reading reviews on it, it seems many have had problems with it, but I got mine in 1999 and haven't had a single problem. And I push it pretty hard sometimes. It survived 5 years of college already and shows no signs of slowing down :D. The LCD remote is kind of clunky, but is kind of a cool gadget. DTS decoding on this receiver is AWESOME, and was the best I could find in my price range when I got it. It's 5 years old now, and there's much better technology available, but mine's still kickin pretty hard, so I'm not replacing it yet.
