I have had 5 laptops since 1992 - and the very best was my Gateway 9300cx. It ius approaching two years old - came with 98Se, then a free upgrade to ME, and then upgraded to XP Pro. In all that time and on the road in many foreign countries, it has NEVER hung up or crashed. I have upgraded it with 512 MB RAM, and a pair of Toshiba 40 GB drives (5400 RPM w/16 MB Cache) and it rocks on - even at a lowly 750 MHz P3 CPU.

I have looked at replacing it - but until I find the features that this one has, I'll stand pat.

I had a Gateway 5500 series. I went through 2 hard drives and 2 LCD panels on it before it finally went down for good. I can honestly say I despise Gateway as a company and their laptops in particular. Avoid unless absolutely necessary, like someone dies and leaves one to you then sell it immediately or run it over with a large truck.
