How are Dell Inspirons?

My brother really wants a Dell (and not an HP) so I looked up and found the Inspiron E1405.
It's great for him, but something in the specs is bothering me.
The C2D's FSB is 667, while the RAM is rated at 533, I was wondering if the CPU will underclock itself, or will the multiplier rise?

Thanks for the help with the HP earlier.

On the reliability factor for HP laptops, I can't verify, but some of my clients have gotten some nice HP laptops from our local Costco, and they're working fine.

If you buy your laptops cheap, you get what you pay for.
I have always configured a Dell for what I would like, if it was for me. You can do the same for an HP.

Cheap is, what cheap does. I haven't come across any laptop in my repairs that has failed in 6mos, though there might have been exceptions, that I don't know about. I won't repair a Sony.

If you google the reviews, you can pretty much get some reliabity feedback.
I know for a fact that the Sony Vaio's have reliability issues and they should br definitely avoided.
IMO, as far as reliability, HP is better than average, maybe an 7.5 on a scale of 10.
You make the decision.

I got a new HP dv1000 a year ago, and have it upgraded to 2 GB of RAM, and a 160 GB Seagate HDD. The Wi-Fi is excellent. I use it on the road extensively, domestically and abroad. It has yet to ever fail me.

I bought a newer model for my daughter-in-law last September, and she has been very pleased with it.

I have heard some folks grouse about HP tech support, but I have never had a reason to use it. :)

Well I'm thinking of getting the DV2000t (everything basic) with a 1.73 Core Duo. Guess it'll do. If you say you like it, I'll take your word on it.

How long does it take for Mail-in rebates to get sent?

Avoid Toshibas and Sony. Ive heard of a few small issues with 1 or 2 or the newest laptops but I believe the issue was resolved very simply even by the users. It has to do with the ribbon cable for the keyboard being too short I believe. Users just had to flip the keyboard off and plug the ribbon back in.

No

I have owned 4 Inspirons in the last 2 years - great machines. Very happy with them, Dell support, forum support, part buying is second to none.

IMHO
