I have an Alienware X51 R2 sat under my TV that I've had for years.

I've brought it along with various updates- faster WiFi card, updated GPU to a 1060 6GB, increased the RAM, upgraded from spinning rust to a (SATA) SSD. It's served me really well, and I've played a lot of my games on this thing! But it's starting to creak, the Haswell CPU isn't keeping up any more, and I'm getting random crashes. I think it's time to think about a replacement.

What is the state of console sized PCs for gaming these days? I really want something that will fit in my IKEA TV unit, but I'm worried that modern GPUs are just too big and power hungry to fit in a cabinet like that. Is it still worth even trying?

It's not the most economical solution but you can still do it if you liquid cool the CPU and GPU. Might have to put the radiator on the outside due to lack of space inside the case. If you custom build something you can still keep it small.
