How are Benq LCD's?

I am looking to get an LCD 17"... I have looked at a bunch and am considering a Benq.
The FP791 or FP767-V2. I have read the reviews but am looking for some feedback from people who have one of these monitors.

Thanks...

I bought a FP767 -V1 about this time last year. This monitor is great, sharp picture, bright color, about the only game i've been playing the past year is BF1942 and have had no problems at all with it. Also, zero dead pixels on mine. I would definately buy another Benq LCD based on my experience with it.

i bought the FP791 after using them in builds for people I know.

I was impressed, they were impressed, so I bought one.

AWESOME buy.
the display is sharp, ULTRA BRIGHT, crystal clear, good refresh rate for gaming (i havent seen ghosting)

one reccomendation is when you get it, the display has a nasty reddish tint to it. go into the menu, go to the colors menu, and theres like 3 presets, and one USER where you can define color values. Set them all to 50 and it gets LOVELY!!!

its nice to not have a power brick lying around too! big plus.

you really cant go wrong. ive used 4 of these, and not a single one has had a dead pixel.

Would their 19" LCD have the same quality? This CRT should turn into an over sized paper weight someday soon. I have been looking for an LCD, and this thread has sparked my interest.

Well I tried out a benq FP791.
It has a ton of useful features, USB card reader, built in speakers and DVI...
But when It comes to the display, it looks great in it's native mode only (1280x1024). Running at 1024x768 text is hazy, even with clear type on and fonts larger etc.
I have to say my CRT (955DF) is a much sharper display.
I am disappointed in that the LCD cost ~ 3x more than the CRT, but still is not as good as the CRT... IMHO ...

LCD's are meant to be run at their native mode.

Many look bad in other modes.

Was it really sharp & bright in native mode?
Any ghosting in games?

I'm looking to get the 19" Benq FP937s or Viewsonic VP192b.
They're both 19" 12ms LCD's and while I know who Benq is and have bought their products (for many years even back when they were Acer Peripherals), I have never seen or used one of their monitors.

All LCD's look like crap at non-native resolution. For games, newer LCD's look OK at non-native resolution, but in Windows with text, forget it. The scaling required to run a lower resolution on a screen with a specific number of pixels (the native resolution) ruins the clarity and muddies up the text horribly.

Personally, after using a 17" LCD for the summer at work and a 19" LCD at hom (both at 1280X1024), you get used to it, and the sharpness in unparalleled.

If it's really annoying you with the 'small' text at first though, here's the tip I give everyone:

In Windows XP right click on the desktop > Properties > Settings > Advanced > General .

Change DPI setting from Normal size (96 DPI) to Large Size (120 DPI) (or a custom setting). That should fix any problems you have with font size.

Also, even on analog LCD's, turn on cleartype. It makes text WAY more readable on LCD's.
