I was planning to upgrade from win2k to winXP but I learned that XP forces you to register not just
the first time you make the installation but every time you change something at your hardware or
something of the like not clearly defined.

I think if true it would be very annoying and wanted to know for sure what XP forces you to do.

Would somebody of you please explain me ??

Thanks Gustavo.-:frown:

You mean "Activate", not "register" since you don't have to register to use XP. In terms of activating XP, there are too many answers on this topic (just search within this forum).

In short its not as bad as people make it sound. Basically, you can make 4 to 6 upgrades within 120 days after that it resets again. It doesn't even included things like memory or -adding- components.

If you have a network card (it reads the MAC) and you have 6 upgrades, without one you get 4. Really thats more than enough chances
for upgrade than any average user needs.

You also get 30 days to make as many hardware changes you want before you need to activate.
